Världsklass av Oskar Edlund - Bara tiondelen från OS-kvalet på 400m häck

Det låg i luften att vår TISare Oskar Edlund hade något stort på gång när han klev ner i startblocken för att springa finalen i Big 12 Conference Championships i Waco, Texas, under natten till söndagen. Alla som följer vårt instagramkonto kunde se hur Oskar med fjäderlätta ben närmast bromsade sig in på 50.72 som vinnare i sitt försöksheat, en tid som skulle gett SM-guld i nästan alla SM-finaler under 2000-talet.
Att klockan skulle stanna på nytt personbästa, dvs. under 49.56, kändes nästan givet. Men att Oskar skulle nå målet redan efter 48 sekunder och 82 hundradelar - personbästa med trekvarts sekund - ger en närmast svindlande känsla.
Sub-49 - En exklusiv klubb
Tiden ger nämligen en fjärdeplats bland Sveriges främsta löpare på distansen genom tiderna, bakom legenderna Sven Nylander (47.98 som OS-fyra i Atlanta 1996), Niklas Wallenlind (48.35 som OS-femma i Barcelona 1992) och nutida Carl Bengtström (48.52, bl a IVM-medalj på 400m).
Oskars tid tar honom också upp på en 13e-plats på årets världsårsbästalista och som fyra i Europa! Det är absolut tidigt på säsongen, men de allra flesta av de bästa har ändå hunnit begå sina årsdebuter. Det är inget annat än en prestation i ren världsklass! En nöjd Oskar hälsar följande:
- Det kändes ganska bra. Har fått extremt bra besked första 5 häckarna på träning och de stämde också väldigt bra igår. Var nog bara där jag tog in tid mot fjolårsperset. Kurvan och upploppet har jag fortfarande en del att jobba på. I loppet nu blev det mer vilja än flyt i löpningen. Ska bli kul med Regionals om två veckor!
Drömmen om Paris
Nu lever drömmen om OS i Paris i allra högsta grad. För inte nog med att Oskar nu var endast tiondelen från den oerhört tuffa kvalgränsen som är satt till 48.70. Loppet nu var, som ni kan se på vår instagram, suveränt den första halvan. Men den andra halvan var inte tekniskt fulländad och det är uppenbart att det finns mer att hämta tidsmässigt. Vi ska också ha klart för oss att den något "enklare" vägen att nå OS är via rankingpoäng, och där har nu Oskar "sparat ihop" till 3 lopp på "OS-nivå" (Bauhausgalan och U23-EM ifjol och så loppet i Texas i natt), och behöver två till på liknande nivå för att nå Paris.
Skulle han lyckas med den bedriften, blir han den första TISaren i klubbens 101-åriga historia att tävla på ett OS i den olympiska huvudidrotten. Chansen finns.
